A bit about Sarah

I was born here in Australia and have lived here my whole life (and have no intention of living anywhere else).

I am an analyst, always have been. I am a qualified Mathematician and also hold a degree in Business and a master’s in business economics. My entire career has been data-driven through a series of Excel workbooks, queries, and dashboards. I have worked in the Engineering, Oil and Gas, Aviation, Petroleum, and Banking industries. Always focussed on the data, always with an IT flair.

I started at a pottery class in 2007 when a friend of mine thought we should find something to do together. I was hooked from my first bowl. It was a fruit bowl made of BRT on a slump mould and hand-painted, my Mum has it at her house. I was so proud of that first creation, still am. I had no idea that that fruit bowl would spark such a passion. Who knew I was creative?

That first fruit bowl

It only lasted a couple of years before life got in the way, and pottery fell by the wayside. We built a house, started a family, and the years slipped away.

I think it was one of those nights when Graham was playing computer games, I was lamenting that I did not have any hobbies anymore and Graham suggested we start pottery together. I almost thought I misheard him, Graham suggesting doing pottery with me?!

I thought he would last a term if that. Turns out, he has a lot more patience than me (and steady hands). I operate at top speed ALL.OF.THE.TIME, Graham is slower, this is a very admirable trait to have as a potter as slow hands create the best pieces. Boy, was I a bit miffed when I realised that Graham was better at pottery (well the wheel) than I was. I was never brave enough to try it the first time I started pottery all those years ago, and now my “never been creative before” husband was better at it than me, once we got started.

Turns out, we all have our strengths. Graham is great at throwing, and I do not mind trimming, and I love glazing. Together we make a tremendous ceramic team.
