The beginning …

When Graham and I first met back in 2008, I was dabbling in ceramics. I was enjoying hand-building and certainly did not have the bravery to try throwing on the wheel.

Fast forward many years and 2 children later. Graham suggested that maybe I should look at ceramics again. Still, this time he said if I could find a place with 2 vacancies, then he would join me so that we could enjoy learning something together.

I found a local studio and asked to be added to the class waitlist, I was told that finding a double vacancy was likely as finding a unicorn. Well would not you know it, there was a baby boom, and we found a unicorn!

In 2017, Graham and I (with the support of our family as babysitters) commenced classes together. It was beautiful to have a weekly date together for 3 hours, where we only focused on learning this new hobby together. It turned out that my IT husband had a knack for ceramics!

From that point on, we started to build on our passion for ceramics and purchased enough equipment to set up a small home studio. We wanted to be able to dabble whenever the whim took us. We have been slowly learning more about our craft through tuition at the “Clay at the Precinct” with the ever-patient and deeply knowledgeable Richard de Haan, through workshops with Tortus and Greg Daly, through YouTube and a lot of trial and error.
